The museum is located in the old capital of the island La Laguna,
in a house which was built in the 16th century by the family Lercaro, to whom is dedicated
a private room in the exhibition.
The house was acquired and restored in the 1970s from the government of Tenerife.
Then 1993 the museum was opened.
The visitor will be given a broad overview of the historical developments in
Tenerife. The museum also cares for the the rescue and preservation of historical objects.
Beside the historical Museum the anthropological Museum is located.
The full name of this complex is "Museo de Historia y Antropología de Tenerife" (MHAT).
