Panorama Photo-Tour at the Pico del Teide of Tenerife
Because the Pico del Teide as the main mountain ranges over large
parts of the island Tenerife, it also shapes their landscapes. For
this reason we integrated all pictures from the wide, central area
of the island under the name "Teide".
With its 3,718 meters altitude the Teide is not only the third-highest
island volcano of the earth, but even the highest mountain of Spain.
The Guanches - the Tenerife natives - thought the Teide to be the
home of the bad Daemon Guayota who there kept imprisoned the sun God
Magec, until their highest God, Achamán freed the sun God from
the Daemon, and closed the upper hole of the Teide with a plug - the
so-called "Pan de Azúcar" or "Pitón" (sugar loaf).
With the teleferic "Teleférico del Teide" one arrives at the
base station in approximately 2.350 meters up to a height of
approximately 3.550 meters. The end of the road can be captured on
foot with permission of the administration of the Teide national park
- as long as the weather is keeping up...
The Plateau around the Teide is shaped by the dry climate at this
altitude - a real moonscape...
