The city, typical for the canary islands, with the landmarked town centre, was
taken on the list of the European heritage site.
Just like La Laguna it is characterised by the magnificent colonial noble
houses with elaborate decorated wooden balconies. It is located in the midst
of the Orotava valley (Valle de Orotava), whose beauty was once already
praised by Alexander of Humboldt.
One of the lovely places of the town is the Plaza de la Constitución which
is also known as "Balcony of La Orotava" because of the breath-taking view
over the valley.
At the Calle de Inocencio Garcia stands the baroque church Iglesia de la
Concepcion from the 18th century. The church with two towers is crowned
by a magnificent dome. Impressing is the large marble high altar of the
Italian artist Giuseppe Gagini as well as the baroque retable of the
Virgen de la Conception.
