Garachico - the picturesque small town with its landmark, the offshore
Roque de Garachico, was once the most important port of the island.
It became rich with the trade of sugar and wine, it was nearly completely
destroyed 1706 by the outbreak of the Vólcan de Negro.
Nevertheless there are many historical buildings, which were elaborate repaired in the recent
past. In the mid 90's the Canary government declared the Old Town completely
as "historical architectural monument".
